GRANDVIEW, Wash.-- Yakima Valley Community
College wine students in Grandview are getting ready to show off their award
winning wines.
They're
preparing for the annual "Teach, Tour and Taste" event.
The winemaking program is now over five
years old and still going strong.
Wine names include "Midterm Merlot"
and "Class Project".
The event isn't just about students in
the wine making program, but it also gives those in the wine marketing program
some first hand experience.
Teachers said it's important to show
students both the business side and the wine making side.
"There's a lot involved in selling
the product, and so the students get the opportunity to see what it takes to
put on an event.. Plan, coordinate, market, and get a clientele," said
Instructor Trent Ball.
YVCC says about 30 students are currently
enrolled in the wine making program and many of the graduates have gone on to
work at wineries around the valley.
The event happens tonight from 5 to 8 at
the Grandview YVCC campus tasting room. That's located at 110 Grandridge Road.
It's completely free to attend.
