RICHLAND, Wash. - The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Cities is one of ten programs in the state to receive a $3000 grant.
School's Out Washington has selected the YMCA for a Quality Enhancement grant to enhance its after school program and continue to provide high-quality programming.
Directors at the YMCA say they plan to use the grant to promote literacy and create welcoming spaces that encourage children to comfortably sit and explore a variety of age appropriate multicultural literary works.
The Quality Enhancement Grant project aims to help children, ages 5-12, particularly those from low-income families, communities of color and those with special needs. The Washington State Department of Early Learning funds the grant program.
This year, School's Out granted a total of $29,268 to 10 different programs throughout the state.
