Washington House Passes Early Voter Registration Starting at 16

Posted: Updated:

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A measure allowing 16 and 17-year-olds to pre-register to vote when getting a driver's license is heading to the state senate.

The bill passed the state house today.

Under the bill, those choosing to pre-register would become registered voters upon turning 18.

Bill supporters said the measure would make it easier for young people to vote.

Opponents called it a political stunt that would result in minors accidentally being mailed ballots.
