Pasco Veteran Awarded Bronze Star

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. - It was a special day for a Pasco veteran, who finally received the Bronze Star Medal more than 60 years after he served in the Army.

Congressman Doc Hastings presented the medal to Private First Class Melvin Rasmussen at American Legion Post 34 in Pasco Friday afternoon.

The veteran had already received a Combat Infantryman Badge and Purple Heart after his service and bravery from 1943 to 1946.

But paperwork for Rasmussen's medal was lost until someone brought it to the congressman's attention.

"I feel kind of funny because there are so many that did more than I did," Rasmussen said.

Rasmussen served in several military campaigns in Central Europe, including fighting in the Battle of the Bulge.
