Pasco Police Street Crimes Unit Still Seeing Success

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. -- The Pasco Street Crimes Unit is only about two months old and is still seeing big success.

In the unit's first two months of operation, 63 people have been arrested (about three arrests per workday). Of those 63 arrests, 39 of them have been documented gang members.

Other results are:

• 30 new criminal charges were filed
• 80 outstanding warrants were cleared
• 5 search warrants were served
• 51 field contacts were completed on other gang members
• 8 gang members were referred to the courts for probation violations

The SCU was formed in late 2012 and was out in the community at the beginning of 2013. The unit consists of one sergeant and three officers.

A sales tax increase approved by voters in late 2011 helped the department start the SCU.
