YAKIMA, Wash.--The 2013 Home and Garden Show in Yakima proved to be a success for many vendors.
Some businesses said remodeling has drastically increased since the recession and shows no signs of slowing down. With tough economic times, more and more people are looking to stay in their existing home and add on.
Kevin Patrick, the owner of Patrick Construction in Naches, said for the past decade his business has focused mostly on remodeling.
He said there are fewer builders than there were a couple years ago, and some have had to change and adapt in order to be successful.
"It's kind of fit our niche well," said Patrick. "I mean we were already set up for it as a primary focus, but I know several builders that were primarily custom home builders that have had to learn to be re-modelers."
"The Yakima area is number six in the nation for remodeling so there's some positive outlooks for this area," said Steve Robinson, the owner of Home Improvement Products. "Tri-Cities is number nine in the nation."
This weekend's show included hundreds of home improvement and landscaping exhibits.
