HERMISTON, Or.-- The City of Hermiston is one of seven cities across the country being honored by the National League of Cities for encouraging and promoting cultural diversity.
In 2012, Hermiston officials created the Hispanic Advisory Committee to give the local Hispanic community better access to city government.
Other cities being honored include Fort Worth, Texas, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Lake Worth, Florida.
The City Cultural Diversity Awards program was created in 1995 by the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials to promote cultural diversity in community governments. Winning cities are selected from a pool of applicants and are grouped according to population.
