Public Forum on Beer & Wine Garden at Next Folklife Festival

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima Parks and Recreation Department wants to know what you think about a beer and wine garden at this year's Folklife Festival.

The festival is a free event that brings folk bands to Franklin Park every year.

The organizers of the festival say they need to bring in more money to keep admission free.

While downtown portions of the event have served alcohol before, this would likely be the first time it's happened at the main festival.

"It's best to check out and see what the neighborhood wants, what the community wants, if this is something they would like to go forward with, we certainly want to hear from them," said Parks and Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson.

The Folklife Festival doesn't start until July.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 pm, in the city council chambers at city hall.
