YAKIMA, Wash.--A community forum Tuesday night will address a growing controversy in Yakima, and hopefully find some way to move forward with improvements for Zaephel Stadium.
In 2009, Yakima voters approved a bond issue to build two new state of the art high schools.
Phil English is a teacher and the track and field coach for Eisenhower High School. He said Eisenhower was given $112 million for renovations, and over $4 million of that was supposed to go toward improving Zaephel Stadium. However, unexpected costs along the way left no money for the project.
"Some people are just plain angry with this that we're behind where we should be, and that there's no sign forward at this stage," said English. "I should say though that the school board and the superintendent are committed to upgrading the stadium."
English said there's no question that the stadium needs upgrades, but now people must decide at what level, at what cost and exactly when this could all happen.
The community forum will be held at Eisenhower High School Little Theatre at 7 p.m.
