YOUR GARAGE: A Gold Mine For Thieves! Crime Tracker Kalae Chock Offers Tips To Keep Thieves Out!

Posted: Updated:

KALAE CHOCK: With the weather getting warmer, we're spending more time outside of our homes, and the garage door is an easy and convenient way to go in and out. Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy Travis Pendell reminds us to keep our garage doors closed even if we're just outside working in our yard. He also says keeping our garage doors cracked for our pets is a bad idea. He says you'd be surprised at the tiny spaces crooks can slide through in order to get into your garage.

In addition to that, Deputy Pendell says there are other steps we can take to protect our property. First, he says to put a deadbolt on the door going from your garage into your home. He also says to take your purse and car keys into your house with you. Do not leave them in your vehicle.  Finally, Deputy Pendell says to keep in mind that access to your attic through your garage can serve as access into your house. He says a quick fix is a simple padlock.

Following these tips will help protect you from becoming a victim. However, Deputy Pendell says your best bet is keeping your garage door shut.
