Pasco "Notario" in Jail Facing Charges

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. - The Franklin County Prosecutor has filed charges against a man for promising to help people with immigration issues, then taking payment but failing to come through.

43 year old Antonio Martinez is in the Franklin County jail on $500,000 bail. He faces seven charges including Unlawful Practice of Law, 1st Degree Theft, 2nd Degree Extortion and Criminal Trespass.

Investigators have identified 30 victims so far and are asking anyone else who thinks they may be a victim to contact Detective Brad Gregory with the Pasco Police Department at (509) 544-3080 ext. 6019.

The Franklin County Prosecutor says notarios, notary publics, immigration consultants and businesses cannot give you immigration legal advice.  In many other countries the word "notario" means the individual is an attorney, but that is not true in the United States.
