WHITE PASS, Wash.-- White Pass Ski Area this
weekend holds the 10th Annual "Hope on the Slopes" ski-a-thon.
Skiers and snowboarders are raising money
for the American Cancer Society.
They'll attempt to stay on the mountain
for 24 hours straight.
People can sign up to go as part of a
team or as an individual.
The event originally started at White Pass ten years ago
as the brainchild of season pass holder David Ludwig.
Now, it's spread to 12 ski
areas around the country including Crystal Mountain, Mount Hood in Oregon, and
even all the way to Mohawk Mountain in Connecticut.
"In the history of the event,
we're just now passing the 3 million dollar mark in terms of funds raised, so
it's been a great run and we're excited for the next ten," says Kathleen
Goyette with the White Pass Ski Area.
Goyette says the number of ski areas
participating in Hope on the Slopes rises every year.
They're expecting 15 to 20 ski areas to
take part next year.
The event starts this Saturday at 10 in
the morning and goes on for the next 24 hours.
Registration is 30 dollars for
individuals and 150 dollars for a team, and you can sign up anytime up until the
morning of the event.
