Wash. Senate Looks to Limit State Cell Phone Costs

Posted: Updated:

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Washington lawmakers are looking to restrain the cell phone costs of employees in the state.

The state Senate approved a plan Wednesday that would place rules on the circumstances under which state agencies can give out devices to their employees.

Republican Sen. Don Benton says the plan will save the state and taxpayers money.
State officials say they have already started looking for ways to save money, developing last year to ensure government-issued devices are necessary for business needs.

Individual legislators had submitted large cell phone bills, including one monthly bill that totaled $382. The bill would not impact lawmaker cell phones.

The bill now heads to the House.
