NBCRightNow.com - Clean-up at Hanford topped U.S. Senator Patty Murray's talk with Energy Secretary nominee Dr. Ernie Moniz.
It is an issue Sen. Murray has been working on for the last 20 years and on Wednesday she says she wanted to make sure Dr. Moniz was up to speed with the issue of cleaning up the dangerous waste at the site.
Sen. Murray says it is most pressing for our nation's energy policies and issues specific to the state, to require strong leadership from the Department of Energy.
"I talked to him about the need to develop a long term plan to deal with the dangerous waste with our limited resources today...and he gave me his commitment to do that," she said.
Sen. Murray says she invited Dr. Moniz to tour the Hanford site and says she also stressed to him that now is not a time to delay cleaning up the radioactive waste.
