Rep. McMorris Rodgers Call on Republicans to Modernize

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Washington state U.S. Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers is calling on the Republican Party to modernize.

McMorris Rodgers spoke at a conference in Washington, D.C. yesterday to call on the Republican Party to modernize, but not moderate.

She said Republicans must reach out to women and other groups in society to express a current understanding of the challenges the public faces.

She said it's time to stop Democrats from defining the party as out-of-touch and old-fashioned.

At a time when congress is in gridlock and frustrating citizens asking for action, people in the Tri-Cities agree with the congresswoman.

"Without some modernization we're in a heck of a tax problem. Absolutely we need to get it together," said Frank Easterly.

"The whole picture, the whole circle of things, I don't think things are running smoothly at all. So yes they definitely need a change. I hope soon," said Marilynn Kilgore.

McMorris Rodgers doesn't want Republicans to compromise their conservative values. Instead, she wants them to adjust their actions to meet society now.

After the Republicans lost the presidential election, many groups questioned the party's ability to win over more modern voters.

McMorris hopes to rejuvenate the party and expand.
