5 Western AGs Meet With Mexican Attorney General

Posted: Updated:

DENVER (AP) - Attorneys general from five Western states are meeting with Mexico's new attorney general.

Colorado Attorney General John Suthers says his counterparts from California, Idaho, Nevada, and New Mexico will join him at Tuesday's meeting with Jesus (hay-SOOS') Murillo Karam in Mexico City. They'll be talking about drug trafficking, human trafficking and judicial reform.

Suthers says the group has been providing training to Mexican investigators and prosecutors as the country shifts to a more public adversarial trial system.

Murillo Karam, a former governor of Hidalgo, was appointed as Mexico's attorney general in 2012 by Mexico's newly elected president, Enrique Pena Nieto.

SPOKANE, Wash. - It took a jury only a little more than two hours on Wednesday to find Daniel Arteaga guilty for the murder of Kim Schmidt. The prosecution said Arteaga was very jealous that his relationship was ending with Schmidt and she was moving on. They say that's part of the reason why he decided to kill her at the beginning of 2012. The defense disagreed saying that Arteaga was not there when she died and they think she may have even died of suicideMore >>
