Kennewick 5th Graders Perform for "Music in our Schools Month"
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Fifth grade students in Kennewick are celebrating "Music in our Schools Month this week.
Monday and Tuesday night more than 1,200 students, representing each elementary school in Kennewick, will perform in the 32nd annual All-City 5th Grade Choral Fest.
Directors say it's a great opportunity for the students to learn music appreciation.
"It gives kids who have a hard time fitting into a regular classroom a chance to find something new to do," said Matthew Rehmke, a 5th grade music teacher and one of the directors of the choral festival, "and music can do something that other subjects can't."
"I'm excited about music," Ridgeview Elementary 5th grader, Misael Alvarado said, "because I get to see my friends and sing with them, and I like all the songs they picked this year."
Students are performing March 25th and 26th at the Southridge High School Gymnasium.
The shows are free to attend, they start at 7 PM.
