Northwest Specialty Hospital Adds Oncology Program

Posted: Updated:

POST FALLS, Idaho - Cancer patients in North Idaho are getting more options and control when it comes to their treatment.

Northwest Speciality Hospital announced March 24 they would open a new oncology program as early as April. This is the first cancer treatment in Post Falls.

There will be ten new positions starting with two oncology doctors and several nurses and administrators. The growth of this center will be directly related to the number of patients it serves.

The CEO of the hospital told KHQ Local News the head doctor for the new unit is Dr. Brian Samuels. The hospital is essentially building the program around his vast knowledge and clinical research about oncology.

What this means for those stricken with cancer is that they won't have to travel elsewhere for cutting edge medical care.

For now, the center will offer chemotherapy treatments. The hospital plans to expand to offer radiation, but it will be a very expensive expansion.
