Sunnyside Brings on Two New Council Members

Posted: Updated:

SUNNYSIDE, Wash.-- Sunnyside's city council now has two new council members.

Dean Broersma and Francisco Guerrero were chosen by the other five council members to replace Mike Farmer and Nick Paulakis.

Farmer resigned after other members on the council fired Interim City Manager Frank Sweet.

Paulakis moved outside of city limits, becoming ineligible for his seat.

The two new members say they're excited to take on the challenge.

"I know there's been some issues with staff turnover, but we're definitely looking forward to making it work," said Guerrero.

"Sense of being humbled, it's a responsibility I take seriously," Broersma told us.

The two men will serve until the end of the year.

After that, both men will have to run for re-election to retain their seats.
