KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Washington State STEM Education Foundation is recognizing the Tri-Cities Cancer Center.

The foundation has awarded the center the 2013 Mid-Columbia STEM Catalyst Award for its work-based learning and internship programs. The foundation says the Cancer Center now provides real world STEM experiences for local students, and plays a pivotal role in the community, sharing experiences with other medical and non-medical businesses.

The Tri-Cities Cancer Center was also recognized for supporting education programs and mentoring educators, students and community members with interest in medical fields.

The Tri-Cities Cancer Center, which is a partnership of Lourdes Health Network, Kennewick General Hospital, Kadlec Regional Medical Center and the Tri-Cities Community, opened its doors in 1994 as a freestanding non-profit cancer treatment facility.
