KENNEWICK, Wash. - A Sunnyside High School graduate aimed for the stars and reached them. Bonnie Dunbar is a former NASA astronaut and took five trips to space during her career with NASA.

Wednesday she was in Kennewick speaking at the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce's Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon.

Dunbar now leads a new university STEM Center at the University of Houston but she never forgets her local roots.

"I'm a big proponent of engineering and I'm in an urban area. Having come from a rural area I have to remind students sometimes that some of the most innovative business people around are farmers and ranchers. There's no Home Depot down the street," Dunbar said.

The theme of the chamber's event was 'Igniting Industry - Sparking Success.' Awards were presented to members of the regional chamber, as well.
