PEORIA, Ariz. – The Seattle Mariners built a 10-3 lead and survived a four-run eighth inning by Los Angeles to defeat the Dodgers 10-7 in front of a crowd of 8,852 fans at Peoria Stadium in Cactus League play on Wednesday. It was the final home game of the spring for Seattle.

Seattle hit one home run, giving them an MLB-leading 51 this spring.

Michael Morse gave Seattle a 2-0 lead in the first inning, hitting a long homer to left field with two outs off of LA starter Clayton Kershaw. The homer was Morse's eighth of the spring, tying the Mariners franchise spring training record (also: Mike Wilson, 2009).

Felix Hernadez (1-1) was the winner. He started for Seattle opposite Kershaw in a match-up of former Cy Young Award winners. Hernandez won the AL Cy Young in 2010, and Kershaw claimed the NL award in 2011. Hernandez gave up three earned runs in six innings of work, with two runs scoring on a two-out RBI double by pitcher Ted Lilly in the sixth following several disputed ball/strike calls in the inning.

Manager Eric Wedge was ejected with two outs in the sixth inning by minor league umpire Seth Buckminster (HP) for arguing balls and strikes.

The Mariners added single runs in the third (Kendrys Morales singled, moved to second on a Morse walk and scored on a Montero single) and fourth (Dustin Ackley tripled and scored on a wild pitch). The club broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning, keyed by minor leaguer Nate Tenbrink's bases clearing double off Lilly.

Charlie Furbush (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) and Stephen Pryor (1.0 IP, 2 SO) each worked scoreless innings, with Pryor notching his first save of the spring. Danny Farquhar was touched for four runs in his inning of work.

The Mariners (20-11) conclude the Arizona portion of their spring training schedule with a 12:05 game at the Chicago Cubs (HoHoKam Park, Mesa) tomorrow. Right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma (2-0, 3.60) will make his fifth spring start (sixth appearance) against Cubs right-hander Carlos Villanueva. The game will be broadcast by 710 ESPN Seattle and the Mariners Radio Network.
