CWU AD finalists coming to Ellensburg

ELLENSBURG, Wash.  — The finalists for the position of Central Washington University athletic director have been selected and will participate in Ellensburg community forums, which are open to the public, during the next three weeks. Each forum will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.  A complete resume for each candidate is available at www.cwu.edu/hr/athletic-director.
 
Gail Farmer, search committee chair, said, "From a large and diverse pool of candidates, our search committee has selected an excellent set of finalists, all of whom have outstanding experience in intercollegiate athletics. We are excited to bring these highly qualified candidates to campus."
 
The five finalists are:
·      Dennis Francois, associate director of athletics for external affairs at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa since 2008. Between 2005 and 2008, he was the director of athletics and recreational sports at Southern Oregon University, in Ashland, and executive director of the university's Raider Club. Francois's community forum will be held Wednesday, April 3, in the Hal Holmes Center, Kittitas Room.
 
·      Gary Hyatt, associate athletic director for compliance and academics at CWU since 2009. He was Central's assistant athletic director for compliance and academics from 2007 to 2009. Between 2000 and 2007, Hyatt was the director of football operations at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Hyatt's community forum is scheduled for Monday, April 8, in the Hal Holmes Center, Teanaway Room.
 
·      Tracee Passeggi, associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at Cal Poly Pomona since 2008. Between 2005 and 2008, she held the same positions at San Francisco State University. Passeggi was also assistant athletic director compliance and varsity sports at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, from 2003 to 2005. Passeggi's community forum will be held Wednesday, April 10, in the Hal Holmes Center, Kittitas Room.
 
·      Greg Waggoner, athletic director/director for development at Western State Colorado University, in Gunnison, Colorado since 2004. Waggoner has served as the university's athletic director since 1994, and also was its head wrestling coach from 1985 to 1997. In addition, he is a professor of exercise and sport science. Waggoner's community forum will be held Thursday, April 11, in the Hal Holmes Center, Ellensburg Room.
 
·      Barbara Dearing, associate athletic director for business and financial operations and senior woman administrator at Portland State University since 2008. Between 2004 and 2007, she held the same posts at Longwood University, Farmville, Virginia. She was also head softball coach and physical education instructor at Presbyterian College, Clinton, South Carolina. Dearing's community forum is scheduled for Monday, April 15, in the City of Ellensburg, Chamber Room.
 
The person selected, who is expected to start on July 1, will follow Jack Bishop, who is retiring after serving as CWU's athletic director since 2000.

    • Jake Browning named to Manning Award watch list

      Browning was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting after passing for 3,430 yards and a Pac-12, record-tying 43 touchdowns in 2016.

    • Vandals QB Linehan named to Manning Award watch list

      Linehan threw for 3,184 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior, earning second-team All-Sun Belt honors. He also went on to capture the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Most Valuable Player award, after leading the Vandals to a win over Colorado State.

    • Luke Falk named to Manning Award watch list

      Falk, a redshirt-senior, was also finalist for the Johnny Unitas Award and a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien Award and Maxwell Award last season after throwing for the third-most yards in the country (4,468) and tying his own school-record with 38 touchdown passes.

    • Raptors sign Kyle Wiltjer to a 1-year deal

      Wiltjer, 6-foot-10, 240 pounds, appeared in 14 games for the Houston Rockets last season, totaling 13 points and 10 rebounds in 44 minutes of action. He also averaged 20.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 35.9 minutes in 22 contests for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA G League.

    • Griz Hold First Fall Scrimmage

    • Kenny Love joins Whitworth's coaching staff

      Love was named First Team All-NWC for three years in a row.  As a sophomore in 2015, Love was the Northwest Conference Player of the Year and was also a Third Team All-American.

    • Eagles prepare for most important scrimmage at the Inferno

      The Eagles will wrap-up practices on the grass fields on Wednesday, then move to Roos Field for practices on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday (Aug. 19) at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Eagles will have its most important scrimmage at the "Inferno."

    • Jacob Wiley signs two-way contract with Nets

      Wiley (6’8”, 213) appeared in 34 games for Eastern Washington University last season (2016-17), recording averages of 20.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in 34.3 minutes per contest while shooting 64.3 percent (265-of-412) from the field. He was named the Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player and earned first team honors.

    • Rocky Looking for Bakken to Take the Reigns at QB in 2017

      Coming into camp in 2017 Bakken is now the presumed starter for Rocky as he preps for his junior season with starting experience under his belt. 

    • Former Zag builds Spokane's version of the Dream Team

      Santangelo hand-picked a fellow sharpshooter in Parker Kelly, who was a standout basketball player at Gonzaga Prep in high school and at Eastern Washington in college.  More recently, his team won the coveted Elite Men's Championship at Hoopfest this summer.
