BENTON COUNTY, Wash.-- Recent efforts by the Benton County Sheriff's Office to stop trespassers from target shooting on private property along Owens Road is working.
Benton County deputies started citing shooters with criminal trespassing and the word is getting out because deputies are finding less people in the area target shooting.
This weekend deputies ticketed only 7 shooters for trespassing.
Normally, they would find around 20 shooters on any given day.
"It appears that people are getting the word. The roads are obviously posted that they don't want any shooting there. It seems to be helping which is good," said Cpl. John Thompson, Benton County Sheriff's Office.
The area has been a popular target shooting spot for years, but property owners are tired of it and now the crack down on gun activity is making an impact.
