Yakima Bringing In Consultants to Help With Downtown Development

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The City of Yakima will soon be another step closer to re-vamping downtown.

The city council is expected to hire two new consultants at this week's council meeting.

The consultants will work to create a master plan for downtown and for the future of retail development in the city center.

And while they come at a cost at around $150,000, officials say it's money well spent.

"It's very exciting. And it's a really nice compliment to the public investment of all the street-scape that was a huge success, how much nicer Yakima Avenue looks now then it used to," said Joan Davenport, Yakima's strategic project manager.

Davenport says the public will have several opportunities to provide input on the downtown development plan.
