Kennewick Police See Increase in Commercial Burglaries
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Kennewick business owners are on high alert after a string of recent burglaries. In fact, police say they've seen a dramatic increase this year in the number of local businesses falling victim to thieves.
Kennewick police say they've seen a 28% increase just this year in the number of commercial burglaries in the area. Officers say they have no suspects, but they do believe the break-ins could all be related and maybe tied to several burglaries in Pasco as well.
The thieves are targeting small businesses, and they usually break the glass to get in.
"There usually pretty small, don't have a lot of advanced security in them. people have a tendency to leave cash inside their businesses and that's what these bad guys are going after, cash boxes left inside businesses overnight," said Mike Blatman from the Kennewick Police Department.
The businesses targeted doctors offices, insurance offices, convenience stores and coffee shops. Police are warning businesses to not leave money inside overnight.
