911 Dispatcher Calls Mom to the Rescue

CATHLAMET, Wash.  - A 911 dispatcher believed rescue workers wouldn't reach a stranded boater in time, so Raedyn Grasseth called someone she knew could get there quicker—her mother.

Wahkiakum County sheriff's deputies say Grasseth's mother, Cindy Faubion, and other relatives paddled a kayak to the boater, who was cold and shaken but didn't need medical attention.

Deputies say the woman became stranded after her kayak sank in swift current near a jetty on the Columbia River.
