SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A Northern California coroner has identified the body found hanging by a rope off an 18-story Sacramento office tower as a man from Washington State.
Sacramento Police found Craig Fugate of Vancouver Monday morning hanging from a rope on the side of the downtown high-rise. Officers say they believe Fugate was trying an extreme graffiti attack because they found spray paint and an etching tool often used by taggers nearby.
Firefighters say Fugate appears to have died of asphyxiation when he created a harness from the rope and lowered himself. The rope then cinched tightly around his body.
Police say surveillance cameras showed Fugate entering the building alone Sunday.
The Sacramento County coroner lists the cause of death as undetermined pending an autopsy.
