KENNEWICK, Wash. - Extreme Pita in Kennewick joins a nationwide movement to offer healthier choices for kids while dining out.
The National Restaurant Association started this movement called 'Kids LiveWell.' For Extreme Pita, it was an easy choice to get involved. All of the items on the kids menu already fall under the Kids LiveWell guidelines.
Nutrition criteria for the initiative are based on things like the USDA Dietary Guidelines and emphasize lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy.
"Everybody's busy. It's hard to dine out as it is as a family and eat something healthy. Especially kids. Kids are pickier, they have different choices on what they want to eat and if you can find something healthy for them that's quick and fast... It makes it easier for everybody," said General Manager Terra Griffin.
Applebees, Burger King, Denny's, IHOP and the Outback Steakhouse are also part of Kids LiveWell. To spotlight the effort, Extreme Pita is offering a free kids meal with the purchase of any adult pita and a drink from now until Friday.
