WSU Baseball Drops Game, Series At Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – Trey Nielsen homered twice and Utah posted a 2-1 victory over Washington State in Pac-12 Conference baseball at Spring Mobile Ballpark, Saturday.

Both home runs came off Washington State (16-13, 3-5 Pac-12) starter Tanner Chleborad (3-5) and made a winner out of Dalton Carroll (3-2).

"We need to find a sense of urgency," Cougar Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "Tanner gave us a chance to win today, but we didn't do enough offensively and our defense was not sharp again."

The Utes (14-13, 4-7 Pac-12) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Nielsen led off with a towering home run to left. Washington State tied the game in the sixth on a leadoff triple by Adam Nelubowich and a run-scoring single by Patrick McGrath. Utah answered in its half of the sixth as Nielsen homered leading off an inning for the second time in the game.

The Cougars will attempt to avoid a series sweep against the Utes, Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Mountain/5:30 p.m. Pacific.
