Yakima Police Citizen Academy Back By Popular Demand, Already Booked

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. - After a three year hiatus, the Yakima Police Department's Citizen Academy is back by popular demand.

Over 40 people signed up for the course and police say there is even more on a waiting list. The program will run for eight weeks starting Tuesday night.

Officers say they are looking forward to teaching courses on gang enforcement, swat, and criminal investigations.

"Citizens wanting to help us and build that partnership with their law enforcement and get to know more about what we do," said Sgt. Linda Watts.

The Citizens Academy is sponsored by "Safe Yakima Valley Communities." Police say depending on funding, they might run a second citizens academy this year taught in Spanish
