River Rescue in Progress After Two Rafts Overturn on Skykomish River

INDEX, Wash. (AP) - Sheriff's officials say everyone is safe after two rafts overturned on a raging river in the Cascade Mountain foothills northeast of Seattle.
    
Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton says the rafters are all accounted for, although she didn't immediately know how many were on board.
    
Rescue crews were dispatched to the Skykomish River between the towns of Index and Gold Bar after initial reports indicated as many as eight people could be missing.
    
The area is popular for whitewater rafting and kayaking. Winter rains and snowmelt have swollen the river, which includes class 4 and 5 whitewater rapids.
