Schimmel Sisters Play for National Title as Hometown Cheers On
MISSION, Ore. - Sunday two sisters from the Umatilla Indian Reservation did the improbable, beat Cal to make it to the NCAA Women's National Title Game. Schoni and Jude Schimmel and their University of Louisville teammates will try to match the Cardinal men by winning a national championship. Standing in their way are the Connecticut Huskies. The Schimmel sisters caught the nation's attention, especially their home town.
" It's going to a huge up roar and uprising, in a positive way. Yeah if they win, lets say they do, there's going to be a gigantic parade like you've never seen before...so we're hoping for the best," said Marcus Luke, Umatilla Tribal Council member.
"Oh my goodness, we would have such a celebration here. We're just looking forward to the championship, if they win oh my goodness this community would go crazy. And be soo supportive and I'm sure we'd have a big celebration of some kind," added Dorothy Cyr, relative of Schimmel Sisters.
