Former UCLA safety Tevin McDonald will transfer to Eastern Washington, SWX reporter Sam Adams has learned. McDonald is enrolled in classes and will be able to participate in practice as early as Thursday.

McDonald was a two-year starter in the Bruins secondary after redshirting his initial season with UCLA in 2010. He had 135 tackles in 27 games with UCLA, including 79 last year as a sophomore.

The son of former Pro-Bowl safety Tim McDonald, the 5-foot-11, 188-pound defensive back was named to multiple Freshman All-American teams after the 2011 season.

McDonald was dismissed from UCLA on March 26 for what the school called a "violation of unspecified team rules." The Fresno, Calif., native had been suspended for the Holiday Bowl after third positive drug test.

"After consultation with many people and having a long discussion with Tevin, we've determined that he deserves the opportunity to continue his collegiate career," said Eastern Washington head football coach Beau Baldwin in a statement. "We have high expectations of him off the field, in the classroom and on the field."
