Getting to Know the Richland School District Superintendent Candidates

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash. - The search for the Richland School District's superintendent is narrowed to three. All three candidates are currently superintendents in the district they're working for.

Joel Aune works fo the Snoqualmia School District and has more than 15 years of experience. He's also familiar with the area, having worked in Walla Walla and Colfax.

Dr. Rick Schulte is at the Oak Harbor School District. He has more than 20 years of experience and is known for his innovation and extensive construction management experience.

Dr. John Steach is also no stranger to the area. He worked with the Richland School District for several years and also spent some time working on the Hanford site.

"We want to make sure we know we're getting the leader that we want, that our community deserves. Second, we want to make sure we validate everything that's said about each of the candidates and everything each candidate said about themselves and last we want to make sure there aren't any surprises out there," said School Board President Rick Jansons.

Next week all of the candidates will be visiting and a public forum will be held with each of them.

A group of Richland teachers, administrators and board members will also visit each candidate's school district. They're hoping to talk with as many people as possible to get a better idea of who these men are.

A decision should be made by the end of the month.
