PNWU Students Practice Crisis Skills

Posted: Updated:

TERRACE HEIGHTS, Wash.--Students at Pacific Northwest University got a "real life" taste of what a medical crisis would be like Friday.

The East Valley Fire Department, Yakima EMS and Medstar all helped with the training. Medstar flew in one of their helicopters from Moses Lake, and students learned how to load and unload patients into the aircraft.

"Right now, it's just giving us a taste and giving us something to correlate with our studies on medicine," said first-year medical student Chantal Barbot. "This is why we're here. We're here to help people and just to kind of get a real live taste of that."

On Saturday, the University will host their third annual "Run For Your Life" event. The 5k starts at the corner of South 2nd Street and East Yakima Avenue at 9 a.m.

100 percent of the proceeds go to the Yakima Children's Village.
