Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. (April 13, 2013 – www.GoZags.com) – Clayton Eslick connected for a two RBI pitch-hit triple in the seventh inning with two outs to push Gonzaga University baseball 4-2 over Saint Mary's College Saturday at Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field. The victory is the seventh consecutive for the Bulldogs as the team claimed the series from the Gaels.

Gonzaga improves to 22-10-1 overall and remains atop the West Coast Conference at 10-4. Saint Mary's Falls to 11-24 overall and 2-6 WCC.

GU starter Tyler Olson (6-2) picked up the win after hurling seven innings allowing five hits, two runs (both unearned) and striking out six.

The game was tied at 2 before the Zags scored the winning runs in the seventh. Cory LeBrun led off the inning with a triple but the Gaels would retire the next two batters. Caleb Wood then walked setting up Eslick who smashed a ball down the right field line on a 1-1 count.

Zach Abbruzza relieved Olson for the remaining two innings and did so admirably. Abbruzza picked up his first save of the season and allow just two hits.

Both Gonzaga and Saint Mary's committed three errors each. However, the Zags turned a season-high five double plays in the game ousting any Gael threats.

Saint Mary's starter Jordan Mills went 5.2 innings allowing five hits and two runs. Reliever Kelsey Outram picks up the loss by allowing the Clayton two runs in 1.1 innings.

The Bulldogs put together eight hits to Saint Mary's seven. Freshman Caleb Wood had a solid day at the plate by going 2-for-3 with an RBI in the third inning. Wood is hitting .339 on the year and .302 in WCC games.

The Zags will go for the series sweep over the Gaels Sunday. The two teams are set to meet at noon with the game televised on SWX.
