Kennewick Man Planning Cross-Country Bicycle Trip for Cancer Research

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - A Kennewick man is planning a very long, but meaningful bicycle trip next year.

41-year-old Shawn Sand wants to ride for two months, from the Tri-Cities all the way to the Florida Keys.

He's doing it to raise money for research about rare forms of cancer.

Both Shawn and his wife Lori have had cancer scares in their lives, but Shawn says he's doing this for people he doesn't know.

Sand said, "It makes me feel really good actually, because it's helping somebody, and even if I don't know them, it's just that feeling of being able to help a complete stranger."

Sand said he's been training for the trip for over a year, riding 30 to 60 miles a day.

But he needs to raise some money initially to get the big ride started.

WASHINGTON: It's barely pumpkin latte season and already signs are up advertising *flu* shots! One vaccine that's been off the market for a couple years is back this year. Two years ago the nasal spray vaccine was taken off the market because the Center for Disease Control said it was no longer effective for that particular flu season. For those who tend to get a little needle frantic, the CDC now says this year's nasal spray vaccine should be effective for this year's flu strain. I...More >>
