Hanford Holds Emergency Sirens Drill Thursday

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash. - The US Department of Energy will activate emergency sirens as part of a drill on Thursday, April 18th.

Between 2 and 2:45 on Thursday afternoon, people living in the 300 area, next to the Columbia River, about one mile north of Richland may hear the sirens, but don't need to respond.

In a real emergency, the county would activate the Emergency Alert System to broadcast information via local radio and television, as well as sirens along the Columbia River.

Periodic emergency drills and siren tests are part of ongoing programs to test emergency equipment and train Hanford workers on emergency response procedures.
