PASCO, Wash. -- Nine outstanding student-athletes from Chiawana High School signed their commitment letters for college. Five of them will play a collegiate sport at a four-year university.

Samantha Cowan will run cross country for Western Oregon. Haylee Hammons will golf at Northwest Nazarene. Danielle Loving will play basketball at Eastern Arizona. Madison Powers will run track at Biola University. Jamie Steach will play volleyball at Pacific University.

"I knew from middle school that I wanted to do collegiate sports, but I just didn't know what sport. Then this was my first year running cross country and it turned out I was good at it, so that was my opportunity to do it," Cowan said.

"I decided to play college golf because I didn't want to stop at high school and I looked at it as an opportunity to keep doing something I love," Hammons added.

Hannah Bosch, Bianca Gonzalez, Lexi Miller and Danielle Sanaski will compete next at the community college level.
