Final Finalist for Richland Superintendent Says his Experience Matches the Needs for Richland

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash.-  NBC Right Now continues to follow the search for Richland's new superintendent for the school district.

The last of the three finalists spoke at a public forum at Richland High School Thursday.

Dr. Rick Schulte spoke about his extensive experience not only as an educator, but as superintendent of the Oak Harbor School District in Oak Harbor for the last 20 years.

Prior to Oak Harbor, Dr. Schulte was a middle and high school principal in the Bremerton School District.

He says his experience matches all of the education incentives currently in place in Richland.

"You've heard about homelink, we have home connection. You have an alternative high school, we have an alternative high school. The new teacher evaluation system they're using in Richland is the same one we're using in Oak Harbor. So, they've started some good things in Richland that I have direct and immediate experience on continuing and growing.  I think that is a good match," said Schulte.

Richland School Board President, Rick Jansons said, "We've had three really great candidates. In my mind I have a front runner, but the process is important. We are taking a group of administrators, board members and teachers and we're going to really dive deeply into the districts next week by visiting where they work and see what they've accomplished."

Once the district visits are wrapped up, Jansons says the board will talk to community members and review the comments.

The board hopes to hire a new superintendent by April 29th.
