Kennewick PFD Proposes Sales Tax Increase

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-  A proposed sales tax increase could help double the size of the Three Rivers Convention Center.

During Thursday's Kennewick Public Facilities District meeting, board members voted to move forward with the proposal, which would increase sales tax by one-tenth of one percent.

Board members say the increased cost, means more money coming into our local economy.

PFD Board member John Givens said, "We're losing that business that we now have to the larger facilities that are being built and we're not able to attract new business. So we're not only not attracting new business, but we're losing opportunity."

The board will now need to take the plan to the City of Kennewick, to get formal approval before moving forward.

The sales tax increases comes out to about one penny on a ten dollar purchase.
