Congress Approves Bill to End Airport Delays

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House says President Barack Obama will sign a measure approved by Congress -- one that will end furloughs of air traffic controllers.
But a spokesman says it's "just a Band-Aid solution" to the automatic spending cuts that forced the furloughs.
The Federal Aviation Administration has furloughed the controllers as part of the government-wide, $85 billion spending cuts called the sequester. The one-day-out-of-ten idling of air traffic controllers led to hundreds of flight delays a day.
Republicans say the administration was playing politics with the controllers. But the White House and Democrats argue that the administration hasn't been given much room to decide where to make the spending cuts.
