West Valley High School Hosts Special Education Prom

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- West Valley High School in Yakima hosted a unique prom today.

Special education students from five different school districts, including Eisenhower and Wapato, were invited to Friday's dance. It is a four-year tradition at West Valley.

This year's event was planned by a student for her senior project. Both students and planners say they hope the event continues on after they leave high school.

"You get overwhelmed with the stress eventually, but then you just remember what it's for and who it's for," said Coordinator Cassie Bowen.

"It's fun having it every year and it's an experience," said Student Jacob MacDermid.

Men's Wearhouse showed up and fitted the boys for tuxedos. Several community members donated dresses for the girls.
