Benton County Offering to Dispose of YOUR Hazardous Waste

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.- Did you find any hazardous chemicals during your spring-cleaning? Benton County is offering a free service for all of its residents this weekend.

Tomorrow from 9am-3pm you can stop by the county fairgrounds in Kennewick and they'll unload any hazardous materials from your vehicle, and dispose of them properly and safely.

"If we didn't take the paints and the spray and the things that the landfill can't take, then it might end up in our ditches along the roadways or they just pile it next to the recycle bins and we have no way of getting rid of it except through this type of an event," said Donna Holmes, Benton County Solid Waste Specialist.

If you can't make it to the event, the county has some tips on how to properly store hazardous material here: http://www.ci.richland.wa.us/DocumentCenter/Home/View/2136
