Students In Pasco Race Electric Carts

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash.- Engineers of the future raced their electric vehicles today at Columbia Basin College in Pasco. High School students from all over the region competed in an "Electrathon" race.

The students designed and manufactured vehicles that can run off of 72 pounds of 24 volt batteries. Students explained their designs are greener and more energy efficient than carbon emitting cars.

"I think it's the right way to go, because the fact that it's not adding to the carbon footprint, the amount of carbon put out by the power plants and things like that is a whole lot less than what comes out of a car," said Mike Hodgert of Electrathon America Races. "A car is about the dirtiest thing burning because that's how inefficient they are as opposed to power plants."

A local team from Delta High School competed in the 1hr. race. The team is open to all High Schoolers in the Tri-Cities who are interested in racing electric carts.

WASHINGTON: It's barely pumpkin latte season and already signs are up advertising *flu* shots! One vaccine that's been off the market for a couple years is back this year. Two years ago the nasal spray vaccine was taken off the market because the Center for Disease Control said it was no longer effective for that particular flu season. For those who tend to get a little needle frantic, the CDC now says this year's nasal spray vaccine should be effective for this year's flu strain. I...More >>
