Pasco Middle Schooler Headed to Karate World Championships

PASCO, Wash. - He's only four-foot eight-inches and 70 pounds, but next week in Australia, sixth-grader Devon Brown will compete in the Karate World Championship as a member of Team USA. Brown and his dad are the only members from the Tri-Cities to make the team... Anjelica Rivera from Yakima will join them down under. Brown trains for two hours three days a week and hopes it pays off with a world title.

"I want to be in the Olympics when I grew up. I'm going to be doing it the rest of my life. But while we're there, they're going to be voting if karate is going to be in the Olympics in 2020," said Brown.

When asked about competing in Australia Brown said, "Scared and excited. I have no idea what's going to happen. I'm mostly excited. I just want to win first place and stand on the first place podium with the flag wrapped around me."
