Fire In Idaho Damages Buildings, Leaves 16 Homeless

Posted: Updated:

JEROME, Idaho (AP) - Fire officials say they have gotten under control a fire that destroyed an apartment building in downtown Jerome and displaced at least 16 residents.
The fire began late Tuesday afternoon and kept fire crews working into early Wednesday morning. Jerome Fire Chief Jack Krill says the cause of the blaze is under investigation or if anyone was unable to escape the fire at the apartment complex. The fire also caused smoke and water damage to a nearby cafe and separate office building.
The families and individuals displaced by the fire spent the night at the Jerome County Fairground in a shelter set up by the American Red Cross of Greater Idaho.
The challenge now is finding more permanent housing for those people.
