Murray Stops in Terrace Heights to Talk Immigration Reform

Posted: Updated:

TERRACE HEIGHTS, Wash.-- As lawmakers continue to look over a new comprehensive immigration bill, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) stopped in Terrace Heights Thursday to hear from locals about what reform would mean to them.

Senator Murray was a part of the 2007 immigration reform talks. She says it was very disappointing when that bill wasn't able to make it through congress.

This time though, she says things are different, and she's hopeful the bill will pass this time around.

Murray met with local agriculture leaders, business owners, and community members directly affected by our current immigration system.

The senator says she plans to take their stories to Washington DC to continue to fight for reform.

"This region, more than any I know, is impacted by every part of the bill that we are considering, and I wanted to hear from people here about the importance of it and their support and what we need to do," she said.

Sen. Murray says the bill is a long way from being a done deal. She says there will likely be quite a few amendments to it. And while not everyone will agree on the entire thing, she says it's about compromise, and in her own words, it's definitely better then what we have now.
