OR Environmental Quality Dept.Fines Metal Company for Pollution

Posted: Updated:

PENLDETON, Ore. - The Oregon state Department of Environmental Quality is fining a scrap metal company more than $17,000 because of solid-waste pollution in the city of Helix.

State inspectors say the company, Metal Mover Inc., based out of Pendleton, illegally disposed of solid waste, and didn't clean up oil spills. The state also says the company didn't properly label or store containers that held us used oil, or determine which wastes were hazardous.

Operators at Metal Mover Inc. however, say the company no longer exists, but will appeal the fines.

Inspectors first began investigating the site last August after a complaint.
